I’d like to share a new project built specifically for Banana Pi M2 Zero that turns it into a powerful LED setup.
Why SmaLiC?
Many people have SBCs like the Banana Pi M2 Zero sitting unused. SmaLiC ( Smart Light Controller) HAT gives them a practical purpose by turning them into a standalone LED controller for modern lighting projects and DIY installations
What it does:
- Drives 9 independent LED strips or matrices to build modern household lighting setups
- Plays LED animations and pre‑timed lighting sequences synchronized to music, fully standalone
- Local direct control via 8 backlit touch‑sensor buttons
- Local remote control through a Web GUI served by the built‑in web server
- Optional cloud control for remote access outside the local network
To demonstrate the capabilities of the SmaLiC HAT, I built a wall‑mounted DIY Light using 10 addressable LED strips, totaling 608 pixels. This is a demo project only — not for sale — intended to show what can be achieved with the HAT.
There is the comprehensive video guide that covers all steps of the DIY Light assembly, from hardware preparation to final installation.
All 3D‑printed enclosure files are available free for download at printables.com.
If you want to build your own light the Bill Of Materials is available as well.
More information on the SmaLiC can be obtained from Demo page and YouTube.
