R3-Mini hardware access & legal questions

Hi, I’m very grateful and many thanks to all the developers who are a part of Banana PI (and any other open source) project. I’m very thankful to everyone for making our lives easier and saving us from the evil wrath of:- NVIDIA, Apple, Google, Intel, Adobe, Microsoft, Meta, OpenAI and many more.

I’m reaching on behalf of Orb Connect and we want to deploy community mesh networks (just the way done in Latin America by LibreRouter). We intend to achieve this by modifying Banana PI-R3 to tune to our needs.

Could anyone please help us answer these questions:-

  1. Is it possible to get hold of the full PCB (kicad__pro) and/or gerber files please? We’ll arrange a contract fairly and oblige by the license and all extra terms requested legally

  2. Is it okay to reverse engineer the hardware and sell it for community-use after modifications?

Thank you very much ;

We will create 2 routers:- Outdoor (People transmitting & strengthening the signal) & Indoor (Receivers & Transmitters). The changes we intend are as follows:

Router 1 (Outdoor):-

  SoC from MT7986A to MT7986AV
  Wi-Fi Chip from: MT7976C to MT7976D
  RAM: 256MB
  NAND Flash: 256MB SPI NAND
  NOR Flash: 16MB SPI NOR
  Ethernet Port(s): None
  Boot switch: Modified to incorporate NOR flash in place of eMMC
  USB / Console Ports / Nano SIM slot / M.2 slots / eMMC storage: Removed
  Antennas: 4x 7dBi for 2.4 & 5GHz (Duplex)

Router 2 (Indoor model):-

  Router 1 with the following changes:-
  SoC from MT7986AV to MT7915
  Ethernet Port(s): 2 x 1G port ;

Please let me know if you need any other information. I’ll forward this information from my company email as well. Thanks! ;
