Dear All,
some years ago I bought several Banana-Pi M64. They were running successfully all over the time. Some time ago I replaced these M64 by another model. I shutdown the M64 and put them into a box. These days I tried to boot one and I had to realize that all of them ( 6 pieces ) are dead.
I did everything what came in my mind. I replaced the USB power supply, checked the voltage, I replaced the cable. I wrote the SD card with a new image, I took also the old image, I wrote to a brand new SD card. But no way to bring it up.
It always the same. When I power on the LEDs are going on. On the serial console I can watch the boot process. And after some time the console hangs. It’s not always at the same boot step. Sometimes it boots till console login. But finally it stops working. Measuring the current it shows 0 mA power consumption. ( At least less than 10 mA, because less I can’t measure ) So it switched off itself. Only unplug/plug from/to power will repeat the boot process until it hangs again. When I hit the key to stop autoboot I get a prompt and this stays forever.
In my opinion some electronic parts died during this time of inactivity. I also tried to keep it powered on over night. From the old days I know that this big fat capacitor died if not used over years.
Any ideas what I can do ? Or did someone else have a similar issue ? Obviously there is an internal power switch which powers off the device after a successful shutdown. In my opinion it has something to do with this switch or with a watchdog. Maybe replacing some electronic parts could help.
Kind regards
Hans
