BPi-M1, gigabit fix?

HI, after using my Banana Pi for over a year with a Bananian and OpenMediaVault as a small NAS, it’s finally time to do a software upgrade. I would also like to use the Gigabit fix, but I shied away from it at the time, because you had to compile your own kernel (and I have no idea of that at all). Is there now an image that uses the Gigabit fix out-of-the-box? Or is there a good guide how to get the fix? Please help. Thanks! I didn’t find the right solution from the Internet.
