[Solved] Banana Pi BPI-R3 OpenWRT constantly rebooting

Hi, I’m quite new user of BPI-R3 and trying several possibilities to run my own router on this board. I tried to use OpenWRT with several kernels even newest 6.14-rc from: GitHub - frank-w/BPI-Router-Linux: Linux kernel 4.14+ for BPI-R2, 5.4+ for R64, 6.1+ for R2Pro and R3 and on every kernel I’ve got the same issue - kernel panic and then reboot. The issue doesn’t occur when I remove support for MT6915E driver from the kernel.

Is this known issue or maybe I missed anything? What can I do here to get stable system with support for wifi interfaces?

Which UART are you using?

I’m using the one with three gold pins close to the BootStrap configuration switch.

Which UART to USB converter are you using?

Oh, I’m using PL2303 UART2USB converter.

Your R3 will boot fine, if you disconnect the usb to uart converter from the board.

Use a FT232RL (switched to 3.3V !!!) converter to boot with converter connected.

Hm… that’s interesting. Does the PL2303 controller make such an issues? I don’t have any converter based on FT232RL so I used another one for which “ch341” Linux driver is needed and now it seems that Linux on BPI R3 is working fine.
