RM520N-GLAP doesn't show on either slot on BPI-R64

Recently picked up an R64 with the intent of trying to use it with a couple of 5G cards I have on hand. Both are M.2 based but I do have an M.2>mPCIe adapter that passes through both PCI and USB as well as having its own SIM slots ready to go.

Right now I’m running the OpenWRT snapshots on this board and it is configured for CN8 to be PCI instead of SATA.

The two 5G cards I have are a Fibocom FM350-GL and the other is a Quectel RM520N-GLAP. Important note on the Quectel is the AP version is PCI only. No USB.

So far I’ve been able to get the FM350 working on this board in both slots in PCI mode. On the other end I have been able to have the RM520 show up in other devices in PCI mode using this adapter. However in the R64 it does not. Nothing in lspci and glancing over the kernel logs there’s no mention of the card.

Curious if anyone has any input on this? Any other tests or checks I can do?

Afair there were some incompatibilities (especially with atheros cards),maybe you hit some of this or the power of slot is not enough…

Yes. The latest OpenWRT snapshots have the kmod-mtk-t7xx package that’s needed for the FM350 to work in PCI mode. From there you can use modemmanager and it will work with the card.

What’s weird is the FM350 works just fine and it’s a power hungry 5G card as well.

Any other suggestions on things I can test or make an attempt at? I’ve been reading up on some other threads surrounding this board including all the power related concerns especially the voltage issues on some of the pins on the PCI slots. But I haven’t been able to get a full grasp on the whole thing and how it may impact this.

I will say with the Quectel card in after booting up the board, it does get warm. Just no signs of life at all.
