Modem Speed Limitations and Compatibility

Hello!

I’m thinking about buying the Banana Pi BPI-R3 to use with an LTE modem. From what I understand, the mPCIe slot only supports modems over USB 2.0. According to the USB 2.0 specification, the maximum theoretical throughput is around 53 MB/s, which translates to about 424 Mbps. I realize there’s some overhead, so I won’t reach that speed in practice. Therefore, I’d like to ask what real-world speeds I can expect if I use the mPCIe slot.

I’ve also noticed that some people use the USB 3.0 port on the front of the router with an additional adapter. That seems like a good workaround to me, but I’m wondering if I’d still be limited to the Quectel EC25E, or can I use any modem that has a Linux driver? And is it possible to use a 5G modem? Do you have any recommendations?

Regards, Karol

First of all do you have any requirement? e.g number of lan/wan port, sfp, 5g & etc…
