BPI-R4 can`t start

The BPI-R4 (v1.1) and BPI-R4-NIC-BE14 (v1.0) worked for a while. One day, the router shut down. A very quiet ticking sound was heard on the router and power supply, occurring once per second. All LEDs were off.

When I removed the BPI-R4-NIC-BE14 board, the router turned on. Turning switch SW4 on and off didn’t change the situation.

I thought the BPI-R4-NIC-BE14 was faulty.

I replaced it with a DR7915 + MT7925 based on the forum’s advice.

But the problem persists (SW4 off) – the router won’t turn on.

I tried removing the MT7925 and swapping DR7915s – no change.

However, the router works with the MT7925 in any port.

Also confusing is that the 12V LED lights up in both cases: SW4 on or off. I tried different power supplies: a standard 12V 5A or a Ugreen 65W PD Type-C.

Is the BPI-R4 board broken?

just remove all peripherals (sfp, nvme, pcie cards,…) and try to boot the r4 with looking on the debug-uart…if not even the bootrom comes up, i guess something in power part is broken

If all peripherals are disconnected, the board is working.

If the BPI-R4-NIC-BE14 is connected (SW4 on), the board is not working.

If the MT7925 and DR7915 are connected (SW4 off), the board is not working.

If only the DR7915 (in both ports) is connected (SW4 off), the board is not working.

If only the MT7925 (in both ports) is connected (SW4 off), the board is working.

Do you have a older mpcie card (e.g. mt7612) which needs less power? I guess regulator (3v3 or 1v8) does not bring enough current.
