I’ve read tons of posts and tested 50+ firmwares on my BPI-R4. So my question is:
Is there any good firmware or fix to get good speed/range on wifi7 with the BE14 card. Bought other pigtails and tested 3d-printed plastic chassis. SFP+ works fine with 1Gbit modules. 10Gbit modules are not recognized. I’ve probably tested 5-8 different brands.
I use a 65W USB-C poweradapter
The most frustrating thing is probably the BE14 wifi card. My card probably has the wrong fw. But I’ve tested fixes for that. I can get good speeds (1Gbit) if I’m under 5m and have a clear line of sight to the router. Otherwise under 10-50Mbit…
If the BE14 card is garbage. What recommended wifi7 card is compatible with BPI-R4?
Sorry if I missed something, but I’m tired of searching
Also if your BE14 has a TX power of 6 to 7dbm on the wireless radios then you have the defective card. You’d have to test on a clean image without any patches to find out.
Thanks for the input. I’ve tried the firmware listed here too. No improvement.
My BE14 is broken, I know
But what other wifi7 card can I use instead.
And how do you manage to get 10Gbit SFP+ modules to work?
I had no problems with my 10G SFP+ - I used 10Gbit/s DACs, 10Gbit/s-Ethernet-SFP+ and currently use 10 Gbit/s Bidi fiber SFPs. The fiber SFP+ I currenlty use, are those “recommended” by Sinovoip: https://aliexpress.com/item/1005006634624803.html
I also installed (using OpenWrt Firmware-Selector) all packages related to any modules - not sure, if this is needed:
You mentioned the AW7915 from AsiaRF (Wi-Fi 6).
It’s described as working (you may also want to consider the AW7916):
https://asiarf.com/product-category/wi-fi/wi-fi-module/wi-fi-mini-pcie/
Or you switch to Wi-Fi 7 APs:
AW7990 (I’m not saying you should do that!)
Sticking with MediaTek modules is probably the easiest path.
There will also be Compex modules… but that won’t get any easier.
But… you wanted BE14, right? → Then wait for the new one!
