What Linux distro is used for it ?

It’s not be based on any linux distro
I just wanted to give a try to this but it seems it has issues and cannot be used for now:
- No configuration changes are saved (it asks to define an interface for WAN although it already exists)
- Some errors or warnings popup but english translation is incomplete and I cannot the error only some squares.
- No SSH cli support
it was fixed, please dowload the img again to re-flash the tfcard

ssh port default is 2222, not 22

I have downloaded the image again but it appears that the MD5 sum from the downloaded MQLinux-ARM-19.02Beta1.for-mtk-bpi-r2-SD.img.gz file differs from what you posted on the github page.

yes, it supports both openvpn client & server, the SSL VPN server/client is.
