I am particularly interested in the 10GB ports, and the M.2 KeyB for 5G (USB 3.2) slot, I hope one can use the Quectel 5G RM521F-GL in this slot to it’s full capacity? Also interested in the slot for WiFi 7 module. Looks to be a beast. I should order one of these, though, waiting for them to be available on Amazon. That’s where I got my BPI-R3 kit from.

i tried to build GitHub - BPI-SINOVOIP/BPI-R4-OPENWRT-V21.02 but failed because Schwerwiegend: Repository ‘https://git01.mediatek.com/openwrt/feeds/mtkopenwrt-feeds/’ nicht gefunden (->not found) failed. The scripts feeds install -a then failed of course too. Where is the source to build openwrt for the R4?

Another thing i just noticed: WARNING: Makefile ‘package/feeds/mtk_openwrt_feed/flowtable/Makefile’ has a dependency on ‘kmod-nf-flow-netlink’, which does not exist Why is that? Where is that file? And regarding openwrt version: this is so old, its not even on the openwrt page anymore. Please update at least to the “old stable” version which is 22.03

- the MTK vendor SDK only support OpenWRT-21.02
- because we upload the code into github, So we remove all folder’s “.git”, please don’t run any update script.
- you clone the BSP from github again, then directly run “make V=s -j2”
thanks, but did you know that: OpenWrt 21.02 has been declared End-of-Support in May 2023 and is no longer maintained or actively supported. ? So there are no security updates etc. anymore, is there any ETA when 22.x or better 23.x is supported? Its like releasing hardware that runs on windows. People would expect windows 10 or above. And when asked, its for Windows XP

unfortunately i cant ask in #openwrt as that release is not supported anymore. i could imagine that another glibc (version) is required to build, which does not produce such warning. and this warning is because of -Werror interpreted as error and then aborts. i use debian trixie.

You will have official support in OpenWrt’s snapshots (and maybe even a backport to 23.05, but I can’t promise) within the next week. Other then Windows which allows hardware companies to develop drivers behind closed door and have them work with the most recent version of the OS is something nearly impossible to achieve in the Free Open Source Software world.
OpenWrt requires changes to be maintainable, and for hardware drivers that means they need to be pushed upstream to the Linux kernel (or at least be in a shape that would allow to send them upstream and start the discussion), as otherwise it will be a lot of work to keep adapting the drivers for newer kernel versions in future (which is what you can see now when trying to build anything newer than Linux 5.4…).
The patchset on top of OpenWrt 21.02 MediaTek provides for the boards is useful as a reference, to build commercial firmware or validate hardware functionality, however, it is certainly not in a shape to be sent upstream as-is – I’ve been working on extracting the necessary changes, cleaning them up and sending them upstream together with others who were provided early versions of the BPI-R4.
MediaTek and BPi have made quite some effort to get support for this new SoC landed in Linux ahead of time (which is better than what everyone else in the market is doing), however, 6 months are still not a a terrible lot of time when it comes to discuss complex driver changes with busy upstream maintainers, hence this process is still ongoing.

R4 is SFP+ and downwards compatible to SFP due to pcs switch (mac can do sgmii to support the lower speeds).
