Banana Pi BPI-F3 16GB sudden shutdown during build – now won’t power on (red+green LED flash)

Hi, I was using my Banana Pi BPI-F3 (16GB RAM variant) to build a tool using make -j6. The system was running fine and I was monitoring the temperature using a system monitor. It was consistently around 65 °C, and the build had reached about 80% completion.

Suddenly, the board powered off by itself with no warning.

Now when I try to power it on:

  • The board doesn’t boot
  • Pressing the power button or reconnecting power only causes a single brief flash of red and green LEDs at the same time
  • No HDMI signal, and no further LED activity after that

I was using a heatsink with thermal pads, but I now suspect the thermal contact may have been poor. The pad wasn’t very sticky and came off easily.

Is this a thermal shutdown? Or could it be any hardware failure? Need help with diagnosing or recovering the board

Hi Krishna1,

have you tried to change the power supply? I have a 12V 5A power supply see this thread:

Thank you for the reply @Mareque ,

Yes i tried a different power supply for same 12V 3A but still the issue persists. Should i try a higher amps power supply ?

Is the project you compiled available on github or somewhere else on the internet? I also have the 16gb version, i am using this heatsink https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807183739036.html and an Arctic mx-6 paste. I wonder whether my board would be able to compile the project you mentioned. How long did it take to compile until the 80%? Anyways i think your board is probably dead and you should RMA it.

I got this board through UBUY : link

I’m using the stock heatsink that came within the box and a thermal pad of 1mm.

I’m using it in India,so i used a adapter for US type pin to India type, is there any possibilities that this could be a problem?

I tried building oneDNN and yes it is available in github. It took around 4 hours to reach 80%

Is it possible for you to return the board? I personally think it’s faulty.

Yes, it’s possible that the hardware of the board is damaged.

I bought it through UBUY, i think it’s not possible to return through UBUY, is it possible to return it to banana pi directly and get it checked??

I don’t know you would have to ask them(bananapi) via email I guess. Why is it not possible to return the board to UBUY?
