[BPI-R4]Scrambled UART output with Debian image

What keyboard? There is no keyboard attached. I’m using the UART headers alone. Is anyone reading my posts?

Could you please try ftdi adapter?

I’ll try; I think I have one, I’ll have to find it.

To clarify, there is no keyboard on the Pi either - I’m SSH’d into the Pi over my LAN. This was probably not obvious. I’m thus using my regular laptop keyboard over SSH to send commands to the R4 and getting the garbage back.

So I’m trying this again. The only other USB-TTL adapter I have is a CP2102. That seems to be free of garbage, but it’s very sensitive to cable lengths. I added a 6" extension DuPont cable between the header and the TTL adapter because I have the board in its case. It seems that’s the culprit - the Banana Pi is so sensitive to voltage drop that it’s not receiving the incoming signals as I type them if the cable is too long. Using a single 6" length of cable between the TTL adapter and the board seems to work. My PL2303 adapters have a 1m cable already attached.

So if anyone else has this problem, use the shortest cables you have.
