I was considering also miniPCIe card (own project) of network interface to SFP based on Intel i210-IS/AS, but it seems that there would be mechanical conflict with SATA etc connectors - they would be in way of SFP module.

And also as in USB converter I suppose that HNAT would be unusable in those scenario.

This should be big change for us if we support SFP on R2, so our team don’t have plan to do this on standard R2 board, sorry for this. As we said before, we can use an usb-to-SFP mode

We are interested in purchasing 4-6 of the BPI-R2 product for research purposes and we have a few questions.

  • Will it run Open vSwitch (runs on debian)?
  • Does it have built in storage for the OS? How much?
  • Does it boot from SATA or the mini PCI-E slot?
  • Can we install an SSD in the PCI-E slot and boot from that?
  • We need a case for this product, is one available?

not direct,but with my kernels you can have rootfs on sata-drive (boot-partition on emmc)

We don’t validate the openswitch on bpi-r2, but I think it’s easy to run it.

The built-in storage is 8GB EMMC.

There are two onboard SATA interfaces, the system can boot from SATA hard driver, (please note that both preloader and uboot must be in EMMC or SD card).

We can’t install SSD HD to mPCIE slot.

Kernel (full boot-partition) must also be on sd/emmc, only root-partition can be on sata-drive if using a kernel with builtin-sata-support

I dont know why I can not create any new threads, but it is not about the BPI-R2 but BPI-R3!

See here: https://abload.de/img/bpir3qxk83.png It says BPI-R3 but I couldn’t find any informations about it. That’s why I’m asking is this maybe a new BPI product to be released in any time? Or is it just a forum misconfiguration?

bpi-r3 is afaik a planned board based in mt7986 SOC, bpi and mtk working on…

for creating threads afair you have to read a bit (stay a while on the board) to get the rights, then a blue (+) icon is appearing on the bottom right side of the thread list (desktop mode).in mobile layout there should be a gray button below category selection. I’ve created a thread for r3 to leave discussion there and not here
