Banana Pi BPI-R2 Open Source smart router with MTK 7623N design

Thanks for your useful suggestion, firstly we can use usb-to-SFP module to support SFP interface, below link for you reference:

And we will discuss this requirement with our team internally, thanks again.

I was considering also miniPCIe card (own project) of network interface to SFP based on Intel i210-IS/AS, but it seems that there would be mechanical conflict with SATA etc connectors - they would be in way of SFP module.

And also as in USB converter I suppose that HNAT would be unusable in those scenario.

Have You discussed SFP connector already?

Hi Karol

This should be big change for us if we support SFP on R2, so our team don’t have plan to do this on standard R2 board, sorry for this. As we said before, we can use an usb-to-SFP mode

received my sample today, thank you very much.

Waiting now for my power supply and wifi-antennas  then i can start to test

We are interested in purchasing 4-6 of the BPI-R2 product for research purposes and we have a few questions.

  • Will it run Open vSwitch (runs on debian)?
  • Does it have built in storage for the OS? How much?
  • Does it boot from SATA or the mini PCI-E slot?
  • Can we install an SSD in the PCI-E slot and boot from that?
  • We need a case for this product, is one available?

We are located in Greece. Where can we buy this product?

Does it have built in storage for the OS? How much?

8gb emmc

Does it boot from SATA or the mini PCI-E slot?

not direct, but with my kernels you can have rootfs on sata-drive (boot-partition on emmc)

Can we install an SSD in the PCI-E slot and boot from that?

no pcie != msata

We need a case for this product, is one available?

there is a acrylic and one metal one official, inofficial 3d-model for printing and 2d-files for laser-cutting

Detailed Information in my wiki http://www.fw-web.de/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=en:bpi-r2:start

Hi Panos

We don’t validate the openswitch on bpi-r2, but I think it’s easy to run it.

The built-in storage is 8GB EMMC.

There are two onboard SATA interfaces, the system can boot from SATA hard driver, (please note that both preloader and uboot must be in EMMC or SD card).

We can’t install SSD HD to mPCIE slot.

BPI-R2 Case is shown below: BPI-R2 case 2

For buying Bananapi product, please check below link: http://www.banana-pi.org/shop.html

Kernel (full boot-partition) must also be on sd/emmc, only root-partition can be on sata-drive if using a kernel with builtin-sata-support

When can we expect the BPI-R2 Case? i don’t see this product available in the reseller page.

It’s there: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/BPI-R2-Metal-case-only-applicable-to-BPI-R2/32855260632.html

But for me the shipping is 3 times the value of the case, and 35 euro for the case is a little too much imho. I hope they offer a less expensive shipping option, I would buy it for sure.

Agreed, crazy shipping is 3 times the value of the case. I will check again with EU reseller.

I m sharing the for learning linux environment, linux kernel networking pdf is a book used for learning Hierarchy of networking layers, Networking Data Structures, NAPI, Routing Subsystem, Receiving a packet, Sending a Packet, and Multipath routing.

@waqasjunaid Download link returns Error: 403

After few attempts to make it fine NAS/router using linux. Return to main idea to run FreeBSD on it. There is first viable result:

*Banana Pi BPI-R64 (MT7622) openwrt (Kernel 4.19) :

Hello,

I dont know why I can not create any new threads, but it is not about the BPI-R2 but BPI-R3!

See here: https://abload.de/img/bpir3qxk83.png It says BPI-R3 but I couldn’t find any informations about it. That’s why I’m asking is this maybe a new BPI product to be released in any time? Or is it just a forum misconfiguration?

Kinds Regards, supergordon

bpi-r3 is afaik a planned board based in mt7986 SOC, bpi and mtk working on…

for creating threads afair you have to read a bit (stay a while on the board) to get the rights, then a blue (+) icon is appearing on the bottom right side of the thread list (desktop mode).in mobile layout there should be a gray button below category selection. I’ve created a thread for r3 to leave discussion there and not here
