are you want Banana Pi BPI-R4 8GB RAM version??? Please vote to help us decide
Sure, that would be cool. Could even run more docker containers on it, or don’t have to restrict their memory usage that much.
I ack @nextgen-networks considerations (imho musks part in US elections leaves a bitter taste after owning twitter). We have a polling function here in forum that i have used for wifi card. X may have more users not only for bpi so more people could vote than in this forum.
I would buy another 8GB board for sure! 16GB would be even better! Can you also populate the currently uninstalled ESD protection diodes on the 1G-Ports, ESD9-ESD18 in the schematic? This would save users from failures like this: Banana Pi BPI-R4 Ethernet ports died
Politics should not affect technology and technology. Let the politicians play.
The MT7988 only support up to 8 GB RAM
8gb with BE19 nic would be a crazy device! Do not know of anything comparable.
Is having RF shielding in the chips an option as well?Someone showed a nice Asus router using the exact same hardware with two PCBs and they had a really amazing heatsink and RF shielding.
8 gigs of ram, be19 module, vertical case, dpdk vpp.
Or only wired router with 10gig fibers and 2.5gig switch and maybe some place for m.2 nvme ssd. Fanless.
I am highly interested in an 8GiB version.
8GiB of RAM would surely be cool, however, being a router board I’d much more fancy a version with PoE and 10G, ie. use an external Aquantia 10GE PHY instead of the built-in 2.5GE of the MT7988.
Can’t you put a 10G fiber / copper module in the sfp+ port? Or is a on board port more efficient?
Sfp cannot do PoE…thats the cause for integrated 10g phy
I would like to get an 8GB version. I became interested in this option with planning to try my hand at doing this myself following [BPI-R4] Successfully upgraded 8GB RAM on BPI-R4 including upgrading eMMC storage.
I would much rather buy an 8GB version directly as I’m not confident in my BGA rework ability
Yes, 8gb would make samba and especially docker containers work better!
Agree with nextgen-networks assessment of x, BTW. I don’t need their DB knowing what router hw/sw I’m using…
Yeah, I’d buy some! What is the level of commitment that would be needed to make this happen?
@sinovoip 8GB would be amazing but would be great to have the txpower WiFi driver sorted first
