Nice hardware!

It has M.2 connector with SIM card slot, so it can be used as a router even with LTE modems

Good scenario -> cable WAN with LTE failover

It would be really nice! Some LTE modems, like MC74xx/EM74xx are supported from kernel 4.5.

BTW Work on similar RTD1295 to be introduced in kernel mainline has already began

How is this different from the BPI-R2?

At first, here at W2 we have 4-core 64-bit Cortex-A53.

Here we have a lot of possibilites to expand this board:

  • M.2 interface with USB and SIM card slot -> various modern xG modems, e. g. LTE
  • two PCIe interfaces can be used for WiFi, SATA etc cards
  • two GbE connectors are great if You have switch, otherwise RGMII connector can be used for eth expander
  • two SATA connectors enables use as NAS

For now, RTD129x has less linux mainline support than MT762x, also HW NAT seems to be bigger mistery, but platform seems to be very flexible.

@sinovoip

Is date of board release known?

we just finished all hardware function test . we also need do all Validation test . and then will do 1K at first.

Great information!

My LTE modem is already waiting for BPI-W2

Nice board. If I purchase a rtl8821ae AENF wireless (https://www.ebay.com/i/282363436837?rt=nc), is it compatible with E key m.2 slot? Thanks.

yes, it have M.2 slot ,also sim card slot onboard. but maybe need test .

Looks like a good successor to BPI-R2. Will be good to have a 64-bit board with dual gigabit Ethernet ports.

How soon can I purchase one? I don’t want to miss out on the first 1K build.

Hi.

It looks soo cool - everything I need: dual eth, dual sata, lte modem, display! Very very cool!

Just two questions:

  • HW Nat performance
  • sata performance - is this native or some kind of usb bridge ?

Just imagine: streaming box + firewall in one device!

Cant wait!

support HW Nat , when we have test performance, will updtate soon,

sata , it is use PCIE interface ,not use USB bridge.

Do you have a rough estimate when the BPI-W2 it will be available? It looks perfect for a small NAS. Is there a newsletter I can subscribe to so I don’t miss it?

we have do hardware V1.2 , it will coming In March 2018

Interesting information that new HW version is in progress!

Maybe would You like to consider SFP connector on board? There would be extra passive switch for SATA0/SGMII port like this:

and SFP connector, thats all! Eventually jumper for choosing SFP/SATA.

i see , but SFP module is too big for this board , if you want to use SFP ,you can use 20 PIN rgmii interface to connect

Hello

Thank you for announcing this interesting piece of hardware. Are you going to release an official case for the board as well? A BPI-R2-like with one or two 2.5-inch HDD slots would be really nice!
