Magia, debian or ubuntu?

Is there a “.deb” for the newer main-kernels ?

All newer kernels from main branches ha a deb on releases-page…but 4.14 has most features

First, for others user, 2 remarks

I had a error in my fstab… /dev was written /deb :frowning: Now, its good with the auto mount.

Now, my dhcp is in wan. In the beginning of /etc/network/interfaces, I have put :

auto eth1
iface eth1 inet manual
  pre-up ip link set $IFACE up
  post-down ip link set $IFACE down

auto wan
allow-hotplug wan
  iface wan inet dhcp
  pre-up ip link set $IFACE address 32:D1:55:7D:03:39 up
  post-down ip link set $IFACE down

Now my problems or questions

I have a problem with your wifi.sh :

root@bpi-r2:/var/log# sh /etc/init.d/wifi.sh
/etc/init.d/wifi.sh: 19: /etc/init.d/wifi.sh: [[: not found
/etc/init.d/wifi.sh: 44: /etc/init.d/wifi.sh: [[: not found
Error, wifi device no created, /dev/wmtWifi
Device "ap0" does not exist.
/etc/init.d/wifi.sh: 61: /etc/init.d/wifi.sh: [[: not found
Done, all good, ready to lauch hostapd

And I can’t have the ap0 with the kernel 4.14.79-bpi-r2-main :

root@bpi-r2:~# wmt_loader
init combo device
Opened combo device
get device id : 30243
set device id : 30243

I see cat /boot/_uEnv.txt, why bananapi/bpi-m64/ ? In the bpi-r2 there is only bananapi/bpi-r2/linux with the kernel

root@bpi-r2:~# cat /boot/_uEnv.txt
console=tty0 console=ttyS0,115200n8 no_console_suspend board=bpi-m64
#fdt_filename=bananapi/bpi-m64/linux/a64-2GB.dtb
fdt_filename=bananapi/bpi-m64/linux/a64-2GB-sd.dtb
kernel_filename=bananapi/bpi-m64/linux/Image
initrd_filename=bananapi/bpi-m64/linux/initrd.img
ethaddr=36:c9:e3:f1:b8:05
optargs=disp.screen0_output_mode=720p60
root=/dev/mmcblk0p2
init=/sbin/init

Have you copied all for wifu (also conf and firmware)?

Looks like official image…these contain kernels for all their boards

I think that’s I have do all. But here, I have not my bpi-r2. I can nothing try.

Do you know this : https://www.armbian.com/bananapi-r2/ It’s a debian to ?

I have seen that there is work on armbian…imho it’s a modified debian. But i’m staying on basic debian.

If wmt-config is not on place driver crashes. In wifi_patching i had fixed this,but also moved init to automatic which actually does npt work

The question is : What I need ?
I nead a version with apache, mysql, ssh for a server.
I nead a version with a firewall, a DHCP server, a hostapd server
I like have a screen for work on my network config

Basicly on ubuntu and debian you can install all including router-specific and xserver. Here you need a kernel with hdmi-support like my 4.14.

Openwrt/lede are only router-os not designes for a Workstation-usage. Here imho you can’t install xserver.

Armbian i don’t know of it supports hdmi,but at least with kernel 4.19,i expect not because i’m still working on hdmi-suppprt for 4.19.

The .deb found here https://github.com/frank-w/BPI-R2-4.14/releases/tag/CI-BUILD-20181105194538-7d3facdb15cd support the HDMI ? I don’t need the X server. Only a terminal and This kernel have HDMI. I try but :

  1. It doesn’t work with my old TV, I use a old VGA wirh adaptator The TV say 1080p. I have write it in /boot/_uEnv.txt

    optargs=disp.screen0_output_mode=1080p

Nothing…

  1. My 2 keybord don’y work. Whenn I press azer, /var/log/debug have :

     root@bpi-r2:~# tail -f /var/log/debug Nov 14 18:24:15 bpi-r2 kernel: [  469.968370] evbug: Event. Dev: input2, Type: 4, Code: 4, Value: 458772

I wait for a new SD-Card and I test it.

1: you need to use /boot/bananapi/bpi-r2/linux/uEnv.txt, option should be

video=1920x1080

in your bootargs

  1. regarding evbug-messages try to remove module (should be module in your kernel):

    modprobe -r evbug

to make it permanent create/add /etc/modprobe.d/evbug.conf

blacklist evbug

and reboot

Now, I have xfce4 and iceWM in my BPI_R2 :sunny: with your debian. But, tty1 I can’t have a french keybord. It’s no easy for my login…

I have try :

dpkg-reconfigure console-data
dpkg-reconfigure locales

There is not loadkeys

reboot works als halt

I don’t know why, but if I don’t do Ctrl-D, the boot is stoping.

You have console on screen connected via hdmi?

Try

sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration

You are still on 4.14.79? Reboot works maybe anything prevents your system to reboot…again logs will be helpful

I have a console on screen connected via hdmi. And I have xfce via hdmi. I have do :

dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration

My keyboard remains in qwerty with the console on screen connected via hdmi.

Xserver does not use console keymap and have to be set separately

Try

setxkbmap fr

Maybe with sudo

I don’t nead sudo because I work directly as root. With the X server, I don’t have problem, my keybord is in azerty.

I don’t understand why the boot ask my the root password for maintenance. I do Ctrl-D and after is good. I see only :

root@bpi-r2:~# dmesg | grep urandom
[ 7.770219] random: systemd: uninitialized urandom read (16 bytes read)
[ 7.788304] random: systemd: uninitialized urandom read (16 bytes read)

I think that now I do a new card with your debian. I don’t remeber what I have do for my 2 problem :

  1. can not boot with no Ctrl-D
  2. wmt_loader don’t work

I have try the armbian :

  1. No HDMI
  2. dd use all the sd-card

here we need full dmesg

Just call my wifi.sh with bash or without sh…imho it lies in /root so do only ~/wifi.sh

I have a new install of your debian.

I can’t have a french keybord in tty. I have ask a question here : https://www.developpez.net/forums/d1913621/systemes/linux/distributions/debian/clavier-francais-console-tty/#post10600277

I have other problem with the old screen (new my sohn use the new with his computer in mageia 6). When I boot, I don’t have screen. But I can make a ssh. I have do a reboot and I have see the message in the screen while the reboot. Nothing after… No Ctrl-Alt-F1 .With a ssh, I do

systemctl restart lightdm

And lightdm work and I can do Ctrl-Alt-F1 to go in tty1 (in qwerty :cold_sweat: )

For the keybord, I install kbd :

apt-get install kbd

And after a reboot, I have automatically the french keybord.

all problems fixed? did not understand your xserver-issue…note that hdmi-driver does not support a bunch of resolutions. try to set video to 1080x1920 in your uenv.txt (have to be appended to bootargs) and connect a screen which supports this resolution (a TV) to test if it’s a resolution-issue.

kernel 4.14 uses hdmi v1 which works best with 1080p, 4.19-rc1 supports hdmiv5 too, but 4.19 final has again problems with hdmi…it’s annoying me too ;(

I don’t understand my xserver-issue. I have not try the WiFi with this new sc-card.

Now, I am preparing an exam subject for my students.
